We are embarrassed to be Sioux Fans...

...but it has nothing to do with the Sioux Hockey Team. At 13:21 of the second period, Michigan Tech scored the second of two goals in less than a minute. Coach Hakstol pulled starting goaltender, Anthony Grieco, and put Phil Lamoureux in. Lamoureux was met with boos from Sioux fans all over the arena. We heard groans and comments like "Hakstol, what are you doing?"

In all our years of watching Fighting Sioux hockey, we have never experienced anything like that. You always hear about the classless Gopher fans. But tonight Sioux fans gave them a run for their money. Nothing shows a complete lack of class more than booing one of your own. We aren't just saying that because Lamoureux is a Grand Forks boy. We aren't even from Grand Forks.

A fan's job is to be supportive of the whole team from the starters to the players who have to compete for a spot in the lineup. We are not opposed to intelligent criticism and may even engage in it from time to time. What we heard tonight was neither intelligent nor constructive. Sioux fans should be ashamed.

Lamoureux has been accused of being too emotional in goal. The fact that he was able to play tonight after being booed by his own team's fans says something about his character.

Thank you, Phil, for playing hockey for the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

I attended the game that night. I didn't boo, but if I did, I would have been booing Hackstol and not Lammy, much like most of the booers were doing. Booing was the easiest way to express your disapproval of Hackstol pulling Greico, who gave up probably the best goal that I've seen scored at the Ralph this year.
It certainly wouldn't have hurt the team to have left Greico in for the last 1/2 of the game. I'm sure Hackstol thinks Lammy gives the team the best chance to win, but I feel it was a mistake to pull Greico.
Please don't compare a classless gopher fans to Proud UND fans ever again.

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for reading! Just to clarify we weren't comparing proud UND fans to classless Gopher fans. We were comparing the classless UND fans to the classless Gopher fans. You know, the kind that throw beer bottles and cups on the ice after tough losses? Real classy, eh? In any event, that all seems to be behind us now as the Sioux just won the Dartmouth tournament where Phil Lamoureux was a member of the all tournament team. Thanks again for the comment but please learn to spell Hakstol. Also, if you're riding the Grieco bandwagon you should probably spell his name correctly as well.
All Our Best,
Sioux Hockey

Personally so what if people were booing? Personally I thought it was a horrible move by Hakstol to take Grieco out of the game.

If the Sioux don't pick up their play and have a losing season you will be writing more article like this, I am being serious. I like your new blog for the most part but if Sioux fans want to boo so be it, they have reason to boo. Its been hard to stomach the effort that has taken place on the ice. I am not some fair weather fan I have been to almost every game at the new Ralph, my wife is a fair weather fan but even she can see the problems on the ice this season.

I think the fans are disgusted with what has transpired this season, Grieco should have been allowed to end the game, he was playing good, phil has struggled and not been good at all except for maybe like 5 games.

At UND Losing is not acceptable anymore, actually Hak won't be here long if he keeps haveing season like this one. Hak will be run out of town on a rail.
